This practice privately bills patients. Accounts are payable at the time of consultation. If the account is not paid at that time an account keeping fee of $10.00 applies.

Payments can be made by cash, cheque, Bankcard, Visa, MasterCard or EFTPOS. Further information regarding fees is available from reception.

All senior patients with age pensions will ireceive a discounted fee. Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) patients will be billed directly to DVA, using their white and gold specific conditions cards. DVA Orange cards are for pharmaceutical benefits only.

Instant Medicare rebates are available by swiping your Medicare card at reception following full payment of your consultation. Rebates are paid immediately into your allocated bank account.

Emergency Doctor

Due to a demand for same-day appointments for sick and injured patients, we developed the concept of "Emergency Doctor Day". Each day, a doctor is designated as the Emergency Doctor for that day. That doctor is not pre-booked with appointments.

The emergency doctor is responsible for checking childhood immunisations, the script clinic and all appointments and emergencies that require immediate attention.

The concept has been working extremely well and enables people who suddenly become ill to be seen promptly. It may not always be the GP of your choice, however, and we appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Unwell Children Are Always Given Priority

Doctor Cheering Mackay kid up
In order for us to assist you to the best of our ability, it is important that if the appointment is
for a sick child, please notify our staff immediately.

Our phone lines open at 7.45am every day, so if you do need an urgent appointment, simply let our reception staff know when you call.

All children ten years and under are now bulk billed.  Don’t forget you can book online as well.

Script Clinic

As a way of streamlining the process of repeat prescriptions and INR blood clotting testing, current flu vaccinations for over 65-year-olds, those with chronic diseases or pregnant women, we have twice-daily script clinics.

We will be conducting two script clinics every day at:
  • 8.30am - 9am
  • 1pm - 1.30 pm
There is no need to book for these clinics.

The clinic will ONLY be for repeat scripts and INRs.

Only our Emergency Doctor for the day will see you.

New scripts and more complex matters will need to be booked with your normal GP.

Script clinic visits will be billed directly to Medicare.

Please note INRs incur a $5 fee to cover the cost of your INR strip.

Scripts will NOT be given for other family members unless they are present at the consultation.
Champix scripts are NOT available through script clinic.

Please note: If you have not seen your regular GP for some time, you may only be given a small supply of your medication. This includes certain oral contraceptives, blood pressure tablets and diabetic medications. We advise that you organise a consultation with your doctor to discuss continuing medication.

Script clinics are for short visits only and complex issues will not be discussed.

Did You Know We Do Skin Cancer Screening?

All of our doctors are experienced in full skin checks and minor surgical procedures. As Queensland has a high incidence of skin cancer, our doctors recommend having a full skin check once a year. If you have not had a full-body skin check in the past 12 months, please enquire when you next see your doctor.

If your doctor detects a suspicious lesion they may recommend you have it surgically removed. We can perform this procedure at our surgery. Usually you only need to wait a few days to get an appointment.

Full skin checks will require a longer appointment. Please book a double appointment with the doctor of your choice and advise reception that the appointment is for a skin check.

Excisions are billed when results are received from pathology. You will be required to pay for the full cost of the excision when you receive your account. Medicare determines the rebate payable to you based on the pathology results.

The maximum out-of-pocket expense to you is $120 per lesion. This fee covers the doctor's time, expertise, materials used (anaesthetics), dressings, sutures and nursing staff, both on the day and when the sutures are removed.

Mental Health Better Outcomes

Garry Batt is employed by South Side Medical as a mental health nurse and provides a counselling service to our patients in the practice. Your doctor may be able to refer you to Garry should the need arise.

There is a small out-of-pocket fee to see Garry. Garry works in collaboration with your doctor to achieve better outcomes for all types of issues, including depression, anxiety, postnatal depression, bullying, suicide prevention and other psychological issues.

If you require further, more specialised assistance, Garry and your doctor can help arrange this for you.

45 to 49-year-old health checks

If you are aged between 45 and 49 years old, you may be eligible for a comprehensive medical assessment, which attracts a higher Medicare rebate than a normal consultation. This is a one-off claim and includes a full medical checkup, with discussions about lifestyle factors such as alcohol, smoking, ECG heart reports, diet and exercise and general preventative medical care.

The out-of-pocket cost for this comprehensive assessment is similar to a normal visit. The appointment generally takes about an hour. If you require further investigations, such as a spirometry testing for pulmonary function, this will incur an extra fee. Please advise reception if you would like to arrange this assessment and they can check your eligibility.

IPL and Permanent Hair Reduction Now Available

South Side Medical now has the facility to do permanent hair reduction - great for treating ingrown hairs! All treatments are carried out by our registered nurses, who are trained in all aspects of the health and safety requirements of IPL usage. Please ask at reception for our brochure.
